How To Jailbreak Your iPad iOS 5.1 (Tethered)

How to jailbreak your iPad using Redsn0w. For iOS 5.1 and the iPad 1 and 2.


Step 1 Backup All Of Your Data

A guide is available here

Step 2 Install Redsn0w

That’s the jailbreaking programme, it’s available here for mac, and here for windows

Step 3 Connect your iPad

Let your iPad sync with iTunes, and then make sure you close iTunes

Step 4 Open up Redsn0w


Mac

Just open up Redsn0w
Windows
a. Download WinRAR here
b. Install it
c. Right click on the Redsn0w file you just downloaded and click ‘extract here’
d. Open up the new folder that has just been made, and find the redsn0w application
e. Right click the redsn0w application and go on properties.
f. Open up properties, click the ‘Compatibility’ tab, check the box which says ‘Run this program in compatibility mode’, and then click ‘Windows XP (Service Pack 2)’.

g. Press OK
h. Right click the Redsn0w application and click ‘Run as Administrator’

Step 5 Redsn0w

a. Click ‘Jailbreak’
b. Watch this video and learn how to put your iPad into DFU mode

c. Make sure your iPad is already connected, and then turn it off (Hold the power button for 3 seconds, and slide the bar which says ‘Slide to power off’.
d. Click next and put your iPad into DFU mode (interactive, written instructions appear in the Redsn0w app
e. Make sure just ‘Install Cydia’ is checked and click next.
f. Wait a while and then click ‘OK’ on the popup window, and then click cancel on Redns0w. Your iPad will do some stugg on its own for a while, keep it connected and let it reboot
g. Make sure Redsn0w is closed
h. Reopen Redsn0w
i. Click ‘Extras’
j. Click on ‘just boot’
k. Put your iPad into DFU mode again, and let Redsn0w do its thing.
l. You’ll need to repeat steps h, i, j and k every time you want to fully reboot your iPad
